A little history
Coconut Grove was settled in the 1800s, before Miami was incorporated. Bahamian immigrants were central to its growth and built the West Grove community, one of the oldest Black communities in South Florida. Early landmarks include The Barnacle, the home of settler Ralph Munroe, now a state historic site. The Grove became part of the City of Miami in 1925.
